SENT ON A MISSION - JOHN 4:4-10 and 27-42

Warm-up question (everyone should answer):

Can you think of a time when you got very involved in a particular hobby or interest and most people around you just couldn’t understand your passion?

Text questions (not everyone needs to answer):

  1. Jesus’ disciples were surprised to find him talking with the woman at the well. Why?

  2. Do you think the disciples were surprised again when Jesus wasn’t interested in the food they offered him?

  3. Do you get the impression that the disciples and Jesus were on different wavelengths? Explain.

  4. What did Jesus mean when he said the fields were ripe for harvest?

  5. Do you think the disciples were insensitive to the fact that the fields were ripe?

  6. Jesus told the disciples that others had done the hard work so they could reap the harvest. Who were these others and what hard work had they done?
    a.    Jesus himself?
    b.    God, who prepares people for the good news?
    c.    Prophets and preachers, who had come before, like John the Baptist?
    d.    People who had been praying for the coming of God’s kingdom?
    e.    People like the Samaritan woman, who served as a link to others within her own people group?

  7. Jesus stayed in this town for two more days. Do you think the disciples had a hand in the ministry there during that time?
  1. Jesus said, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ Is this a principle which is still true today? Explain.
