Warm-up question (everyone in the group should answer):

Have you ever approached or called out to stranger who you mistook for a friend or family member? How did the person react, and how did you feel?

 

Text questions. (Read John 10:1-30 just before answering these questions. Each question should be answered, but not everyone in the group need give an answer.):

  1. Jesus uses two word pictures to describe himself in this passage. What are they?

  1. What point does Jesus make when he calls himself ‘the gate’?

  1. Through most of this passage Jesus pictures himself as a shepherd. Look through text and list all the specific things Jesus does as a shepherd.

  1. Jesus also speaks of strangers and hired hands. According to Jesus, in what ways do such men differ from the shepherd?

  1. What indication is there in the text that the shepherd knows his sheep?

  1. What indication is there that the shepherd loves his sheep?

  1. What indicates that the sheep know the shepherd?

  1. Jesus speaks about ‘other sheep that are not of this flock.’ Who is he referring to?
