Labour Day and Rest Day

Labour Day is just one day, a day of rest for all workers in the world. Man’s work is an imitation of God’s work.

God Himself works. He created the present heavens and the earth. At the end of each day’s work, God saw that it was good. “And on the seventh day God finished his work that He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work that He had done” (Genesis 2:2).

God created man for work. Work can be therapeutic, creative and challenging. But work can also be depressing and boring. Work can be a vanity, a striving after the wind (Ecc 2:11).

Practise good works at home, in the real and virtual work environment (Matthew 5:16). Christians are exhorted to be (1) models of good works, (2) be zealous for good works, (3) be devoted to good works (Titus 2:7, 14; 3:8,14).

“So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from His (Hebrews 4:9-10).

The Exodus generation who were disobedient did not enter the promised land of Canaan.

Those who look by faith beyond the cities of the world to the coming Kingdom of Christ are considered righteous. All of them will enter the Kingdom of God in the Name of Jesus Christ.

There will be a long day of rest from all the labors for all of God’s people.

And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!” (Revelation 14:13).

God will create a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth will pass away (Revelation 21:1).

And He who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new” (Revelation 21:5).

All these are true because of our Great God and Saviour Jesus Christ!

“For all the promises of God find their Yes in Him. That is why it is through Him that we utter our Amen to God for His glory” (2 Corinthians 1:20).

Let’s reflect on work, rest and final rest from our labours.

Grace and peace to one and all!
