Entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (6 Oct 2019)

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed by Your Name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven…” (Matt 6:9-10). The Lord Jesus Christ taught His first disciples how to pray. The risen Lord Jesus Christ revealed to the Apostle John, that the Kingdom of God on earth will last a thousand years. This period is a literal, physical reign of Jesus Christ on earth, mentioned six times in Revelation 20:2-7.

The Old Testament prophets saw the coming of the future Messianic Kingdom. They described the conditions of life in the Messianic Kingdom, but not the duration. They did not see the intermediate period between the first and second comings of their Messiah. Jesus gave several parables in order to reveal the secrets of the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 13) in this intermediate period. Secrets in Matthew 13:11 are “mysteries” or truths not yet revealed.  The Apostle Paul received several mysteries of this intermediate period of Christendom. Some of such mysteries revealed to Paul are: Christ in you the hope of glory, Christ and the Church, the Jews and Gentiles as one body of Christ.

Why should we be motivated to share the Gospel? This is the period of grace, whereby men can be saved by hearing and believing in the Gospel.

Time and again we hear of people passing away. One of my old classmates went home to the LORD Jesus Christ’s presence at the age of 66 years. He left behind his wife, four children and three grandchildren. He was diagnosed with colon cancer and given six months to live. By the grace of God, he lived another thirty months. A young man died at 25 years old after a nine-month battle with stage 4 sarcoma. You can read his stirring goodbye message at https://thir.st/bog/25-year-old-elliot-soh-cancer/.

Many of our relatives, friends, colleagues in our workplaces and casual contacts cannot enter the Kingdom of God. Do you not care and pray for them? Jesus Christ says, “Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). Paul says, “Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Cor 15:50).

All who believe in the glorious gospel of our Redemeer, the Lord Jesus Christ, will be born again by the power of the Holy Spirit. They will enter the kingdom humbly as little children (Mark 10:24). Those who are self-righteousness and have much wealth and have no faith cannot enter God’s kingdom.

All that we do on earth will last only a little while.  And all that we do in the will of our Heavenly Father will last to eternity.  As we build up our character in Christ and do our utmost to build up our holy faith, we will enter the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:11).

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. To God be the glory!
